Tunnel Repairs Set For Great Smoky Mountains National Park Will Mean Travel Delays For Visitors

Repairs on the Spur Tunnel in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will begin next month. The National Park System says traffic will be reduced to one lane from January 3rd to April 7th, and that could cause some temporary delays. The work they say, is necessary to fix water leaks in the tunnel and make lighting improvements. They say drivers should reduce speed, refrain from honking when traveling through the construction zone and allow extra time. The entire $10 million project should be completed by June 5th.
