Tennessee Launches Project-based Voucher Program To Expand Affordable Housing Access

The Tennessee Housing Development Agency is launching a new effort to expand access to affordable housing by assigning some vouchers directly to new developments. About 600 of the 6,200 voucher holders in the state can’t find landlords who accept them. The project-based voucher program aims to fix that by guaranteeing vouchers go to specific housing units. Lawmakers gave the program a positive recommendation, but some raised concerns about possible future cuts to federal funding that could jeopardize the initiative.
