In less than a month now, starting August 5, local calls within the 423 area code — including Greene County — must be dialed using all 10 digits. The change is part of an area code overlay that introduces the new 729 code to the same region. Seven-digit dialing will no longer work, and calls will not complete without the area code. Residents are urged to update devices, alarms, and contact lists before the deadline. Existing phone numbers will not change, and local calls will remain local regardless of area code.
