Camp Creek recorded an 87 mph wind gust late Tuesday night during a mountain wave wind event. The National Weather Service says the gusts, which can exceed surrounding winds, occur when strong winds are forced over mountain ranges. That wind speed is comparable to a Category One hurricane.
