Much Of David Crockett Birthplace State Park Destroyed

Flooding from Hurricane Helene has destroyed a nearly 60-year-old monument at David Crockett Birthplace State Park. The structure, built by the Limestone Ruritan Club and featuring stones from all 50 states, was swept away by the Nolichuckey River. Most of the stones have been recovered, but the park’s farmstead buildings and playgrounds were also washed away. Despite heavy damage, a limestone monument marking Davy Crockett’s birth and the U.S. and Tennessee flags remain standing.
