Barn and Harvester Destroyed in Greene County Fire

A barn and farm equipment were destroyed by fire Monday morning on Kinley Lane in Limestone. Four volunteer fire departments responded. The barn was valued at $25,000, while a Case harvester was valued at $20,000. The property owner told authorities he did not know how the fire started.

GEA Warns Customers About Phone Scam

Greeneville Energy Authority is warning customers about scammers threatening to disconnect electric service unless immediate payment is made through an 888 number. GEA says it never demands instant payment by phone. Customers should not provide financial information and should call GEA directly at 423-636-6200.

Greene County Restructures Planning Department

Greene County is restructuring its Building, Planning and Zoning Department under a new staff engineer. The position will be fully funded for five years through a U.S. Forest Service grant and will pay between $80,000 and $120,000. Two existing positions are being eliminated as duties are consolidated.
